Five letters, first published in Paris in 1669 under the title "Lettres portugaises, traduites en françois." Commonly attributed to Marianna Alcoforado. Translated, or perhaps originally composed in French, by Gabriel Joseph de Lavergne, Count de Guilleragues. The preface to this edition contains the statement: "Le nom de celuy auquel on les a écrites est Monsieur le Chevalier de Chamilly, & le nom de celuy qui en a fait la traduction est Cuilleraque." The Chevalier is usually identified as Noël Bouton, Marquis de Chamilly, and Cuilleraque as the Count de Guilleragues.]
