Dollar or Piece of 4 Merks, 1682
History
Scotland's equivalent of the English crown. The orginal value of the [Merk]] minted in the reign of Charles II. was 13s. 4d. It was raised to 14s. in 1681 – the value of the 4 merk piece or Scottish dollar rose accordingly from 53s 4d to 56s.
